     Treating Missing / Lost Teeth

  • In order to support replacement teeth, dental implants normally have some form of internal screw thread or post space that allows a variety of components to be fitted. Once fitted, these components provide the foundation for long-term support of crowns, bridges or ultra-stable dentures.

  • Is your self-confidence suffering as a result of one or more missing teeth? Or maybe you miss being able to chew your food but don’t like the idea of wearing a denture. Dental implants can offer you an exciting alternative.

    What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a titanium metal rod which is placed into the jawbone. It is used to support one or more false teeth.

    How does it work?

Each implant is placed into a socket carefully drilled at the precise location of the intended tooth.

In order to support replacement teeth, dental implants normally have some form of internal screw thread or post space that allows a variety of components to be fitted. Once fitted, these components provide the foundation for long-term support of crowns, bridges or ultra-stable dentures.

All the common forms of tooth replacement, such as bridges or dentures can be replaced by dental implants.

How many implants will you need?

If you are missing just one natural tooth, then one implant is normally all that will be needed to provide a replacement. Larger spaces created by two, three or more missing teeth do not necessarily need one implant per tooth; however the exact number of implants will depend upon the quality and volume of bone you have at each potential implant site.

    Implant-retained denture?

If you have no teeth in the lower jaw, and are not yet ready for multiple implant placements, a conventional lower denture can be considerably improved with two implants placed beneath the front section – this is called an ‘overdenture’. The same overdenture concept when used to treat the upper jaw will usually require more implants as the bone is generally softer.

Implant-supported overdentures, just like conventional dentures are still removed for daily cleaning, however, once back in the mouth, the implants make them much more stable.

        Bridges

  • So you have lived with one or more missing teeth for too long and want to do something about it. You’ve considered implants but decided it’s not the right option for you. Have you considered a dental bridge?A conventional bridge consists of a false tooth that is fused between two porcelain crowns. The purpose of this procedure is to fill in the area left by a missing tooth. The two crowns holding it in place are attached onto your teeth on each side of the false tooth. This is known as a fixed bridge and it can’t be taken out of the mouth like dentures.

    The Procedure

The dentist begins bridgework by filing down the teeth to accommodate the crowns. Then the dentist will take impressions of the teeth, which will then be sent to a dental laboratory to create the crowns. Once the crowns are finished, the false tooth (or teeth) will be fused to them. When the bridge is ready, a return visit to the dentist will be necessary to place it on the teeth.

    What Are Bridges Made From?

Some bridges are made from an alloy of metals fused to a porcelain outer shell. All-porcelain or all-ceramic bridges are the best choice for a natural cosmetic look.

           Cosmetic Dentistry

  • People today are more conscious of their appearance. The face is the focus of attention in daily direct conversation; the eyes and mouth are the most important assets of what the general public sees as attractive.

Words only make up 10 -20% of the impact of a conversation. The rest is non-verbal i.e. visual and cosmetic.

At Perfect Teeth we offer a range of solutions to improve your smile factor.

    • Do you suffer from discoloured teeth?
    • Are your teeth excessively worn or chipped?
    • Do your metal fillings prevent you from smiling in a crowd?
  • Dental Bonding or white fillings is a fantastic pain-free solution to improve the appearance of teeth, especially teeth that have stains which can’t be removed by bleaching. In most cases this procedure can be undertaken without the need for an anaesthetic! They are also used to improve the appearance of your smile by replacing visible old mercury fillings. Dental bonding can also be used to change the shape of teeth including adding length to short teeth or masking chipped tooth surfaces.

    How is Dental Bonding Applied?

The dentist first conditions the enamel (removes the shine of the enamel) of the tooth using a tooth conditioner so that the bond will adhere to the tooth. Then the bond is applied to the tooth and is set by exposing it to a high intensity light which hardens the bond and seals up the “roughed up” enamel. Then a white filling material is applied to the bonded area of the tooth, which is also exposed to a high intensity light that sets the filling material hard. The dentist polishes and contours the tooth. The procedure usually doesn’t require the use of an anaesthetic.

  • At Perfect Teeth we offer a range of solutions to improve your smile factor. We offer a range of crown systems which can enhance the way you teeth look and function.A crown, also known as a cap, is a tooth-shaped covering that is placed over a tooth that has been badly decayed or damaged.

    When Are They Used?

Crowns are generally used when the damage or decay is so extensive that filling materials cannot make the tooth strong enough. In addition, crowns can be used to hold a bridge in place and to cover discoloured or misshaped teeth.

    What Are Crowns Made From?

In modern-day dentistry there is a wide variety of dental materials to choose from. Some crowns are made from full gold, whereas others are made from an alloy of metals fused to a porcelain outer shell. After time, crowns that are made from a combination of metal fused to porcelain can begin to show dark gum lines that are not aesthetically attractive.

All-porcelain or all-ceramic crowns are the best choice for a natural cosmetic look.

At Perfect Teeth our cosmetic dentists are trained to offer the best all porcelain systems available in the U.K.

  • Veneers offer one of the best cosmetic dentistry options for people wanting whiter teeth beyond what bleaching can accomplish or who want to camouflage spaces between teeth and/or overcrowded teeth.

    What are Veneers?

Veneers are very thin slices of porcelain or composite that are custom made for each tooth. Veneers are attached to the front of your teeth.

    How are Veneers applied?

In standard cases, a half-millimetre of enamel is removed from the front surface of the tooth. The tooth is then “roughed up” using phosphoric acid. Resin cement and the veneer are then applied to the tooth. The procedure takes at least two visits.

At Perfect Teeth our cosmetic dentists are trained to offer the best veneer systems available in the U.K.

  • Perfect Teeth now offers the best non surgical facial rejuvenation solutions under the care of our trained U.K qualified dental surgeons (not beauty therapists). The high number of celebrities using this facial rejuvenation treatment has meant that a stigma around these cosmetic procedures has been removed and regular individuals, including men, have opted to act if they feel their aging looks are hindering their quality of life.Botox is the brand name that has come synonymous with muscle relaxing injections that help smooth facial lines. The active ingredient that makes the treatment work is called Botulinum Toxin.

    How does Botox treatment work?

First, a few drops of Botox are injected (with a tiny needle) into the muscle that creates the wrinkle. When Botox is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle weakens. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear. If a specific muscle can’t move, it can’t cause a wrinkle.

When will I see results from a treatment?

Within days of receiving your injections, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to a month, and results can last for up to 4 months.

If you discontinue treatment, the frown lines between your brows gradually will look like they did before treatment.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

Although the results are visible, a treatment will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

  • Currently experiencing a surge of popularity among consumers in the UK, dermal fillers are a cost-effective alternative to surgical cosmetic procedures and could provide patients with an increase in confidence as a result of their smooth facial complexion.A dermal filler, or as it’s sometimes called, wrinkle filler, is a substance that is injected beneath lines in the skin, around the mouth, for example, between the nose and lips or into deep vertical lower forehead lines. The results are a natural, more youthful look, with softer facial contours and a healthier appearance. The newest and safest dermal filler is Hyaluronic Acid (H.A). It is injected not only to fill lines (e.g. Laughter lines and Marionette lines) but to also voluminous and to re-establish the youthful contour of the skin.

How long does a skin filler treatment take?

Skin filler injections are made using a pre-filled syringe equipped with a very fine needle. A single treatment usually takes around 15-30 minutes but we allow an hour because we like to ensure we incorporate pain relief in to a treatment. Our use of local anesthetic is often used to try and eliminate as much discomfort around sensitive areas as possible.

The use of pain relief is unusual in the industry as it takes more treatment time, but we suspect those that don’t use pain relief have never had the treatment themselves.

Over time, fillers slowly break down and are naturally reabsorbed by your body; therefore, your practitioner may recommend top-up treatments two or three times a year to maintain a perfect filler correction.
